Twitter Famous!

Ya'll, I am beyond proud of my students and all of the AMAZING and hard work that they are putting into their genius hour projects.
I am creating this post to brag on one friend in particular... Miss Lundon.
I would like to share with you some of the work that this little genius has put into her project thus far.

  1. She created a blog focused on "Girl Power". (ON HER OWN!!!)
  2. She posts weekly inspirational blurbs to inspire other like-minded young ladies.
  3. She developed a series of interview questions focused on what it means to have "Girl Power"
  4. She set up an interview with one of her fabulous teachers, Mrs. Gallman.
  5. She recorded the interview. (Mind you, she did this INDEPENDENTLY, WOW!)
  6. She posted a photo of Mrs. Gallman to her blog and linked her interview video to it.
  7. She has begun to seek out other powerful women, including Mrs. Beaman, to conduct additional interviews to post.

This is just what she has already accomplished...
She has big plans to continue to grow her project and further develop awareness of her passion for "Girl Power".

Dr. Davis visited LBN today and we were lucky enough to have had him spend some time in our classroom during our genius hour. He was so impressed that he posted about his experience on twitter.

There are no words to express how truly impressed I am by all of our students and the initiative that they are taking in order to develop their passion projects.

"The Dark" Written by Lemony Snicket

This week we will continue to talk about figurative language and we will begin learning about tone and mood.
The story "The Dark" written by Lemony Snicket has so many WONDERFUL examples of both of these. This story will be our mentor text and read aloud focus this week.
AT HOME EXTENSION: Listen to the story at home with a grown up. Try to find examples of figurative language together. Talk about how the author's words and tone effect the overall mood of the story and the way that it makes you, as the reader, feel.
